Hey friend! Pull up a chair and grab a cup of coffee or tea with me for a second. We need to have a real, heart-to-heart talk about mornings.
When you’re juggling a packed schedule, demanding work shifts, family logistics, and the sheer speed of modern life, finding a moment of peace can feel almost impossible. A few years ago, I got so tired of feeling like my days were instantly running me instead of the other way around. I knew I needed a change, but I didn’t have an extra hour to spare.
So, I started experimenting. I stripped away all the noise and boiled it down to just 15 intentional minutes.
These days, my personal morning routine is much longer and more expansive. But I have to be completely honest with you: even now, there are plenty of mornings when life happens, schedules get crazy, and I am truly busy. On those rushed mornings, I still lean heavily back on this exact, simple 15-minute rescue routine. It never fails to ground me.
Here is my go-to, real-life routine for those busy days and how I use it to reclaim my peace before the chaos starts:
Minute 1–2: The 30-Second Spoken Gratitude & “No-Phone” Awakening
What I do: Before I even sit up, I spend just 30 seconds to a minute speaking my gratitude out loud. I keep it simple: “Thank you that I am awake today, and that I can do things that I enjoy in this world.” Then, I stretch my arms overhead and take a moment just to soak in that feeling. Hearing my own voice express thankfulness right at the start sets the entire tone for my day.
Minute 2–6: The 5-Minute Meditation & Breathing Exercise
Right after speaking my gratitude, I transition straight into a quick, centering breathing practice.
What I do: I close my eyes and spend five minutes just focusing entirely on my breath. Inhale calm, exhale the rush. It doesn’t need to be fancy or complicated—just five quiet minutes to let my nervous system settle, clear out any mental clutter, and anchor myself in the present moment before the rest of the world wakes up.
Why the First 5 Minutes Matter Most
Your brain operates on different brainwave states as you transition from sleep to wakefulness. When you first wake up, your mind is in a highly receptive, impressionable state.
If you feed it stress: Your nervous system immediately spikes into fight-or-flight mode, setting a reactive tone for the whole day.
If you feed it gratitude and breath: You anchor your spirit in abundance, calm, and intention.
Minute 7–8: The Power of Blessing
Before I step out into the world, I spend my final two minutes sending out high, positive energy.
What I do: I take a moment to intentionally bless my children and bless the world itself. (And if you have pets or anything else you deeply love, bring them into this too!) Sending out a blessing is such a powerful practice—it anchors your heart in love and vibrates that same great energy right back to you.
Minute 9–15: The Coffee (or Tea) Ritual and Reading a Book
Instead of chug-a-lugging my morning drink on the run while scrolling through notifications, I take a few quiet moments to just be with my favorite brew.
What I do: I make myself a fresh cup of coffee (some of you might prefer a warm cup of tea!) and simply enjoy it. Feeling the warmth of the mug and taking those slow, intentional sips acts as an immediate physical anchor to ground me before I step into the rush of the day.
Why This Changed Everything
A slow morning isn’t about having hours of free time; it’s about the quality of your presence within the moments you’ve been given. You can rush through 15 minutes feeling frantic, or you can use those same 15 minutes to reclaim your power and your rhythm.
Sometimes, all it takes is a whispered “thank you” in the dark, a few deep breaths, a warm cup of coffee or tea, and a quiet moment of blessing to completely shift your day.
